Document Verification: A Complete Guide for Students
For Nepalese students planning to study in South Korea, document verification is one of the most important steps in the process.
- 9 min read
Document verification is where most study-abroad timelines quietly go wrong. Not because students fail it, but because they start it too late — and everything downstream, including the consulate appointment, is waiting on it.
What verification actually checks
Verification confirms that the academic documents you have submitted were genuinely issued by the institution named on them. It is an authenticity check, not an assessment of your grades — which is why a strong student with a sloppy file can still be held up for weeks.
The documents you will need
- Academic transcripts for every level you are claiming, with no gaps in the sequence.
- Certificates — SLC/SEE, +2 or equivalent, and any completed degree.
- Character certificate and migration certificate where your institution issues them.
- Passport, valid well past your intended arrival, with the spelling you will use everywhere else.
- Official translations of anything not issued in English.
The order that saves the most time
- 1
Fix your name first
Decide the exact spelling and order of your name as it appears in your passport, then make every other document match it. A mismatch found at the consulate stage costs weeks.
- 2
Collect originals before translations
Translating a document you later have to re-issue means paying for the translation twice.
- 3
Verify, then apply
Verification does not require an offer letter. Running it in parallel with your applications is the single biggest timeline saving available to you.
- 4
Keep a scanned set
Scan everything at full resolution before submitting originals anywhere. You will be asked for copies more times than you expect.
The four mistakes we see most
- 1Starting after the offer letter. By then the queue is the whole problem.
- 2Name inconsistencies. Middle names present on one document and absent on another.
- 3Unofficial translations. A translation without the required certification will be sent back.
- 4Missing intermediate qualifications. A gap in the sequence reads as a gap in your history, even when it is just a missing certificate.
Almost every file we have seen rejected was rejected on consistency, not on merit.
How long it takes
Turnaround varies with the season. Files submitted well ahead of an intake clear comfortably; files submitted in the weeks before a deadline compete with everyone else who left it late. Treat the published turnaround as a best case and plan for a longer one.
